For more than four decades, Dean Walters has built his life around helping people find their voice, their strength and their possibilities. Today, he brings that experience to a new mission: helping adults 60+ protect the independence that makes everything else possible.

THE STORY BEHIND THE MESSAGE
In 2009, my life changed in an instant when I ruptured the quadriceps tendons in both legs. I went from being an active, independent man to being unable to stand or walk without help.
I spent seven weeks essentially confined to a bed. Then came the braces, the wheelchair and the long process of learning to walk again. For the first time in my life, I understood what it meant to have everyday independence taken away—getting from one room to another, getting into a chair, and depending on someone else for things I had always done for myself.

FROM THE STAGE
For more than 40 years, Dean Walters worked as a professional opera and musical-theatre performer, teacher and producer. He performed on major stages across the country and in Europe, while teaching singers and helping other performers develop the confidence and skills to find their voices.
The stage taught Dean lessons that still shape his work today: how to tell a story, connect with an audience, make complex ideas memorable and—perhaps most importantly—help people believe that more is possible than they may have imagined.

Dean brings more than four decades of experience as a performer, teacher and educator together with professional training in health coaching, senior fitness, corrective exercise and nutrition.
That combination gives him a unique perspective on healthy aging: he understands the human side of change, the physical side of staying capable, and the importance of helping people believe that more is possible. Today, he puts all of that experience to work helping adults 60+ stay strong, capable and independent.

Dean's award-winning book, Unfinished Business, extends the message at the heart of his work: getting older doesn't mean shrinking your life. It challenges readers to ask a different question—not what they should stop doing because of their age, but what they still want to do, experience, contribute and become.
“Dean was excellent, and everyone loved that he shared such personal stories of his health struggles. The message was very motivating, and we received extremely positive feedback from our residents.
The morning exceeded my expectations!”

“Dean’s classes combine fitness with fun and camaraderie. His Aging Boldly classes became so popular two more classes per week had to be added.
During these months my strength, flexibility and balance have improved significantly. These issues are important to performing everyday tasks at 68 years of age.”
